Tennis Team Enjoying Early Success

The Husker Tennis squad is off and rolling again this spring as one of the perennial contenders in the athletic program year in and year out.

Last week the Huskers opened up their 2026 campaign starting off with an always tough Marshall Owls team at the southeastern edge of Fairground Park at the tennis complex on 3-23.

In singles action Colby Dickmeier won a close match over Jase Knott 8-5 at number one singles. The rest of singles saw the Huskers take 5 out of 6 contests with the number two spot going to the Owls 7-9 over Matteo Guillen, while #3 Alex Dyer won 8-2, Rhett Bums won 8-6 at #4, Cy Fitzgerel won 8-4 at #5, and Joel Cook won 8-4 at number 6.

Before singles play started HHS was leading 3-0 after doubles to set the pace. Dickmeier and Dyer won at the top spot, 8-4, number two doubles Guillen and Bums won 8-1, and Fitzgerel and Cook won 9-7.

JV winners were Atticus

Kerrivan 6-0, and Houston Davenport 6-1.

Next up the Huskers took the long bus ride up north to face off against the Trenton Bulldogs.

Bulldog senior Isaac Dixon won at #1 singles over senior Dickmeier by the tally of 8-4, however the next five Husker spots dropped a mere 5 games combined to snatch the victory. Guillen won 8-4, Dyer 8-1, Bums 8-0, Fitzgerel 8-0, and Cook also an 8-0 winner helped the cause.

In doubles play, Dickmeier and Dyer won in a tie breaker 9-8 (7-4).

Final was 8-1 HHS. In JV action, Kerrivan and Davenport won in doubles 6-1, Fitzgerel and Drake Shackleford won 6-0, and #3 Lennon Frank and Owen Elliott dropped their match 0-6.

On 3-26-26 the Huskers took down the Odessa Bulldogs by the score of 9-0 to improve their record to 3 and 0 on the young season. This week the team will face a tough Warrensburg team, and conference foes Carrollton and Richmond.
