Harry Truman goes to war – part 2
Truman didn’t have to go. The United States entered World War I in 1917 when Harry was 33. He had already done a 6 year distinguished stint in the National Reserve, but our country needed him. Patriotism and military service had always run deep with Truman.

Church donates

County Democrats to meet May 17
The Lafayette County Democratic Central Committee and Club will meet on Sunday, May 17 at 5:30 p.m. at Las Carreta Mexican Restaurant, 2009 Main St., Higginsville.

The Lafayette Regional Health Center Auxiliary is offering $1,000 scholarships to eligible students.
WCE RoundUp Foundation awards grants
The second quarter 2026 RoundUp grants were recently presented to area groups and organizations. The following organizations and projects received funds: Teacher’s Warehouse of Johnson County received $3,500 for supplies for student and teacher needs throughout the school year.
Minutemen drop final conference game to Carrollton
Carrollton pitcher Ryan Henry was definitely the star of the game, as he pitched a complete game shut out, and also drove in 4 runs in leading the Carrollton Trojans to a 10 to 0 win over the Lexington Minutemen last Wednesday at Indian Foothills Park in Marshall.

History of Hoflander Ford, Inc.
Harold and Kathryn Hoflander, while residing in Boonville, MO, purchased the majority shares of the Ford Lincoln Mercury dealership located at 1807 Main, Higginsville, MO, on July 15, 1982, from Charles and Mary Frasier. Harold and Kathryn purchased the remaining shares from minority stockholder, Herman Simmons, on Aug. 8, 1988.

Jack Remembers
One of the biggest mistakes Kansas City has made was not keeping the FFA convention here with the American Royal. The FFA groups from Missouri now send their delegations to Louisville, Kentucky. Kansas City had the group forever. When I was in high school, a carload of us guys went to the American Royal every year.
