LSWCD now accepting sign-ups for cost share cover crop program
The Lafayette County Soil and Water Conservation District is currently accepting signups for the state cost-share cover crop program. Cover crops offer many benefits to the land. They can prevent erosion and also return nutrients to the soil. Cover crops also fight weeds and add grazing value. The Lafayette County Soil & Water Conservation District partners with farmers in offering state cost-share to help with the cost of using cover crops in the field - $30 an acre for 1-2 species of cover crops, and $40 an acre for 3 or more species. The District also offers state cost-share on conservation practices such as buffer strips, animal waste management systems, stream protection, well decommissioning, grazing systems, and permanent vegetative cover establishment and improvement. The District also has a Truax no-till drill as well as a silt plow available for rental. Please call 660-584-8732 ext 3 or stop by the office for more information. The Lafayette County SWCD is located at the USDA building, 1650 Highway 13 Boulevard, Higginsville, MO, hours are 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
