The Oak Grove High School that I went to was located in a two and a half story building. The grade school occupied the four rooms on the first floor. The high school occupied three rooms on the second floor with a wood working shop, music room, classroom and rest rooms in the basement. There were 23 in my graduating class.

When I was in school the guys thought for some reason the girls in the adjoining towns were better than our hometown Oak Grove girls. Since I was having a hard time getting an Oak Grove girl to go out with me I somehow managed to get a date with one of the most beautiful girls in Blue Springs High School.

Back when I was a kid, we had two barbershops in Oak Grove. One was located in an old wood frame building between the bank and the Oddfellows building. The bank bought the building, tore it down and expanded to the south.

One of the biggest mistakes Kansas City has made was not keeping the FFA convention here with the American Royal. The FFA groups from Missouri now send their delegations to Louisville, Kentucky. Kansas City had the group forever. When I was in high school, a carload of us guys went to the American Royal every year.
