Three LHS female athletes notch career milestones
Three Lexington High School female athletes recently achieved very special and prestigious milestones for their high school athletic careers.
LaNiya Davis, who is a Senior, recently scored the 1000th point of her high school basketball career, in the recent game with Crest Ridge. Davis is one of the leading players on this year’s Minutewomen basketball team that has compiled a 12-6 record. She was an All Conference and All District catcher on this year’s Minutewomen softball team that finished third in the conference, and made it to the district semi finals, with an 18-10 record.
LaNiya is also a strong sprinter on the LHS track team. Brad Young, the Lexington Girls basketball coach commented: “LaNiya is a very good basketball player, who can shoot well from the outside and also drive very aggressively to the basket. She has stepped up as a clutch player for us, and she is a very strong leader, who has been a great example for all of the freshmen on our basketball team, and those younger players really look up to her.” LaNiya plans to attend Polk State College in Florida, to study and play softball, and she has earned a very nice softball scholarship.
Elizabeth (Izzy) Hager, who is a Senior, recorded the 100th pin of her high school wrestling career, in a recent match. In addition to recording her 100th pin, Izzy also set a new Lexington High School record , which she is still building on, for the most career pins by a female wrestler. The previous record for a female was 92 pins that was set by former LHS wrestler, Alex Hollingsworth.
Izzy also had a banner year in 20242025, as she recorded her 100th career win as a Junior. In addition she advanced to the semi finals of the Missouri State Wrestling Tournament, and she earned a sixth place medal. To date this year, Izzy has a record of 33 wins and only 5 losses, and she has been a key leader on this year’s Lexington Girls wresting team, that was undefeated MRVC Champions. Lexington wrestling coach Zach Black commented: “Izzy is a fearless wrestler, is very aggressive, does not back down from anyone, along with being very talented. She has also been one of the captains of our team for 4 years, is well respected, and she has been Academic All Conference for 4 years, and Academic All State for 3.”
Mireya Gonzalez, who is a Junior this year, recorded the 100th win of her career at the Cameron Tournament. She currently has a record of 33-3 so far this season, and she has been a leader and key wrestler on this year’s Undefeated MRVC Conference Champion wrestling team. Mireya has qualified for the State Wrestling Tournament in both of the past two seasons, and as a freshman, she finished third at State.
One very unique thing about Mireya is that for the past three years, she has been a key performer on both the Girls wrestling and Girls basketball team during the same season. Last year, she was named to the MRVC All Conference basketball team. She is also a key player on the Lexington softball team, and this Fall, she drove in the winning run in Lexington’s first round district game.
Wrestling Coach Zach Black Commented: “Mireya is a very strong fundamentally sound wrestler. She has outstanding quickness, and she is very coachable. She is one of our captains, as she is well liked by the Girls, and she was our first District Champion.”
