Minutemen drop close contest to Carrollton

It was a close game throughout, but the Carrollton Trojans had a big fourth quarter and they beat the Lexington Minutemen Boys Basketball Team 55 to 50 in the Courtwarming game last Friday night in the Lexington gymnasium.
The Minutemen got off to a good start, as Zach Melvin and Cash Cole both nailed three pointers in the first quarter, with Cole also adding a two pointer, while Jimmy Patton had a basket and Chael Lichte converted two free throws, and Lexington led 12-9 at the end of the period.
The second quarter was evenly played, as Lichte had a couple of buckets, Cole drained another three, and Patton had a field goal, but the Minutemen had difficulty from the charity stripe, and Carrollton led 24-23 at intermission.
Neither team could get much separation scoring wise in the third stanza, as the two teams combined for only 18 points between them. Lichte had a 3 and a 2 pointer in the quarter, and Patton had a bucket and a free throw, but the Minutemen again had trouble converting their free throw attempts, and the Trojans expanded their lead slightly, and led 34-31 heading into the final period.
Cole and Melvin both had big fourth quarters for Lexington, as they scored 8 and 7 points respectively with each nailing a three, while Patton and Brody Neece each added a basket during the period, and the Minutemen led 43-42 with about five minutes left in the game.
However, Carrollton did a good job of attacking the basket down the stretch, and they closed the game with a 13-7 run, and came away with the 55 to 50 win.
Cole led Lexington in scoring with 16 points, while Melvin had 12 and Lichte 11. Casson Kipping led the Trojans with 17 points, while Jackson Davis added 12 and Maddux O’Doniel 11.
The Minutemen fell to 10-9 overall and 3-3 in Conference play, while Carrollton improved to 14-6 and 3-3. Both teams were tied for third place in the MRVC East Conference as of last Friday.
