Minutewomen fall to league leading Carrollton

The Carrollton Lady Trojans, who are undefeated in MRVC East Conference play, utilized a very strong swarming defense, and they defeated the Lexington Minutewomen 49 to 27, in the Courtwarming game this past Friday at Lexington High School.

The Lexington Girls could not get much going offensively in the first quarter, as they got only a basket by LaNiya Davis and two free throws by Zoey Earnest, and they trailed 14-4 when the period ended.

Things got no better for the Minutewomen in quarter number two, as Davis had a bucket and one free throw, and that was it, as Carrollton had a commanding 25-7 lead at intermission.

The Lexington Girls made a nice run after they came out of the locker room to start the second half, as they outscored the Lady Trojans 13-7 in the third period as Davis scored 5 points, including a three, while Earnest had 4 points and Ellie Lichte and Kai Sheperd each had a basket, and they cut the Carrollton lead to 3120 heading into the final stanza.

The Minutewomen continued to play hard in the fourth quarter, and showed some signs of getting over the hump, with Earnest scoring 3 points, and Davis and Sheperd each collecting 2, but Carrollton’s Jenna Owen sealed the win for her team in that final period, as she drained 4 three pointers down the stretch, and the Lady Trojans won their 18th game of the season by a final of 49 to 27.

Davis was the only Lexington player in double figures as she tallied 12 points, while Owen led Carrollton with 19 points, including 6 three pointers, with Emmy Lock also in double digits with 12 points. Lexington is 12-8 overall and 24 in conference play, while Carrollton is 18-2 and 6-0 respectively, as of last Friday.
