Lexington boys fall to league leading Higginsville
The Lexington Minutemen Boys Basketball Team hung close for a good part of the night, but the Higginsville Huskers, who led almost all of the way, pulled away for a 65 to 45 win, a week ago Tuesday in the Higginsville gymnasium, to keep their undefeated conference record in tact.
Five different Higginsville players scored in the first quarter, while Chael Lichte scored 4 points, Jimmy Patton 3, and Zach Melvin and Drew Bollmeyer 2 each for Lexington, and the Huskers led 18-11 at the end of the period.
Lichte had a basket and drained two free throws in the second quarter, while Melvin canned a 3, and Patton Bollmeyer and Cash Cole each had a bucket in the frame, but the Minutemen were still down by 8 at 32-24 when halftime arrived.
Higginsville had a big run early in the third period, and the Minutemen then rallied a little, as Patton scored 5, Melvin and Lichte each had a 2 and Anthony Hager drained a free throw, but Higginsville expanded their lead to 48-34 at the end of the frame In the final period, Cole scored 6 points including a triple, while Melvin scored 3 points and Patton 2. but the Huskers hit 8 out of 10 free throws down the stretch, and pulled away for the 65 to 45 win.
Patton led the Minutemen in scoring with12 points, while Lichte and Melvin each added 10. Clay Aversman led Higginsville with 18 points, while Kadin Aversman had 16 and Parson Stoner 15.
