Richmond shoots lights out in win over Minutemen

The Richmond Spartans Boys Basketball Team quite honestly put on an awesome display of outside shooting, as they nailed 12 three pointers, with many of them coming from well beyond the arc, and they topped the Lexington Minutemen 74 to 54 on Courtwarming Night last Friday evening in Richmond.
Lexington’s “big man: Jimmy Patton started off quickly as he scored 6 points in the first period, and pretty well controlled the inside, while Trey Perez came off the bench and quickly drained a 3, Drew Bollmeyer had a basket and Zach Melvin converted a free throw in the quarter.
However, Richmond was on fire from the outside from the git go, as they nailed 5 threes in the first period with Nolan Quick splashing three and Cale Moyer draining two, and the Spartans led 22-12 at the end of the period.
Lexington could not get much going offensively in the second stanza, as they only scored 6 points with Melvin, Patton and Cash Cole each getting one bucket, while Richmond had two more triples, and led 39-18 at intermission.
Lexington Senior Chael Lichte reached a milestone in the third quarter, as he nailed a three pointer, and then hit a driving lay up to score the 1000th point of his high school basketball career.
In addition to Lichte’s five points Melvin and Patton each had two baskets in the period, but Quick had 3 more triples and Moyer had one more, and the Spartans extended their lead to 57-31, when the third quarter buzzer sounded.
The Minutemen had by far their best quarter of the night in the fourth as they put 23 points on the board during the period. Patton had 3 baskets and a free throw, while Cole had 2 baskets, with Melvin scoring a bucket and draining 2 free throws. Lichte had 2 baskets, a free throw and a second three pointer, and with that triple he broke the Lexington career three point scoring record, for his second milestone of the night. However, the Spartans already had all the points that they would need, and they came away with the 74 to 54 win.
Patton had a good game, as he had 19 points and quite a few rebounds on the night while Lichte had 13 points with Melvin adding 11. Quick led all scorers for Richmond with 37 points, which included 8 threes, while Brice Dome had 17 points with Moyer and Brody Farnan, each scoring 10.
With the win Richmond improves to 914 on the season, while Lexington stands at 10-11, at the time when this article was written. Both Lexington teams will be at home tomorrow night (Thursday) to face Knob Noster for Senior Night.
