Lexington girls fall to powerful Knob Noster on Senior Night

The Knob Noster Girls Basketball Team played very good defense, and they defeated the Lexington Minutewomen 58 to 28 last Thursday, on Senior Night in the Lexington Gym.

Knob Noster got it going early, as three different Lady Panthers drained a 3 point basket in the first quarter, while Zoey Earnest and Kai Sheperd tallied the only points for Lexington, as each had one bucket, and the visitors led 16-4 at the end of the period.

Things did not improve that much offensively in the second quarter, as Earnest, LaNiya Davis, and Audrie Bollmeyer each had one 2 pointer for the Minutewomen, and the Knob lead grew to 27-10, when the two teams headed to the locker room at halftime.

In the third period, Ellie Lichte drained a 3, Earnest and Sheperd each had a 2 pointer, and Davis swished a free throw, but that was all that the Minutewomen could muster, as the Lady Panthers kept their foot on the pedal, and maintained a commanding 44-18 cushion heading into the final period.

Two Lexington Seniors scored in the fourth quarter for the final time on the Lexington court, as Zoey Earnest nailed a 3 pointer and hit a free throw, while LaNiya Davis had a bucket and converted two free throws in front of a large Lexington crowd, as both, who have started for four years, wrapped up their home careers. Freshman Kinsley Worthington also scored a fourth quarter basket, along with the two Seniors, but Knob prevailed in a 58 to 28 win.

Earnest was the only Minutewoman in double figures with 10 points, while Davis had 7 in her last home game. Ella Goodrich of Knob Noster led Knob with 27 points. Senior Denee Caulkins also started the game for Lexington, and she received a nice ovation from the crowd when she was introduced.

With the win, Knob Noster winds up in second place in the MRVC East Conference race, with an 8-2 conference mark and they stand at 17-7 overall. The Minutewomen finish in a tie for fourth in the conference, and they currently have a very respectable 13-11 overall record. Lexington will face Higginsville tonight (Wednesday) at 7 pm in a Class 3 District semi final game at Lone Jack High School. The winner of that game will play in the District Championship game at 6 pm Friday, also at Lone Jack.
