Lexington girls knock off Holden for third time
The Lexington Minutewomen Girls Basketball Team played solid defense, as they beat the Holden Lady Eagles for the third time this season, claiming a 44 to 36 win a week ago Monday in the Lexington Gym.
Four different Girls scored for Lexington in the first quarter, as Zoey Earnest tallied 8 points, while Kai Shepared had a basket, and Mireya Gonzalez and LaNiya Davis each converted a free throw, and the Minutewomen led 12-5 as the period ended.
In the second quarter, the Lexington Girls scored only 7 points, as Kinsley Worthington drained a three pointer, while Davis and Mylan Huffman each had a bucket, but the Girls held Holden to only 13 first half points, and they led 19-13 at intermission.
Lexington maintained their 6 point margin through the end of the third quarter, as Huffman scored 6 points, while Davis had both a 3 and a 2 point basket, with Earnest having a basket and a free throw in the period, and the Minutewomen had a 33-27 lead when the buzzer sounded.
Adalyn Campbell of Holden scored 5 straight points to trim Lexington’s lead to only 1 point early in the fourth quarter, but then Earnest had a bucket, and Mireya Gonzalez converted a free throw, before Campbell scored again, to pull her team back to within two at 36-34. Davis then stepped up for the Lexington Girls, as she nailed back to back 3 point baskets, and the Minutewomen extended their lead and re gained control with a 42-34 lead with only 2:10 remaining in the game. Holden scored again, but Davis hit two free throws, and Lexington came away with the 44 to 36 victory.
Davis led Lexington with 16 points while Earnest tallied 13. Campbell led all scorers with 25 of Holden’s 36 points.
