Minutemen shut down Holden offense in win
The Lexington Minutemen Boys Basketball Team held the Holden Eagles offense to single digit point totals in three of the four quarters, and they pulled out a 42 to 33 MRVC East Conference win, a week ago Tuesday on the Holden court.
The two teams played even steven in the first quarter, as Chael Lichte drained a 3 pointer and added three charity tosses, while Zach Melvin had a bucket and a free throw, with Jimmy Pattonn adding a basket, and the two teams were tied at 11 when the buzzer sounded.
The Lexington “D” held the Eagles to only 7 second period points, but the Minutemen could only tally 8 points themselves, with Lichte and Patton scoring 4 apiece, and Lexington had a slim 19-18 lead at intermission.
In the third period, Lichte had a 3 and a 2, Patton had two baskets and a free throw, and Melvin added a 2, as the Minutemen widened the margin a little, but it was still anybody’s game with Lexington leading 31-26 after three, in a low scoring contest.
Holden hung tough in the final stanza, and they were within 2 points of the Minutemen midway through the period. However, Drew Bollmeyer nailed a 3 pointer, and Lichte and Cash Cole both had a basket and 2 free throws apiece in the quarter, and Lexington pulled away for the 42 to 33 win.
Lichte led Lexington with 19 points, while Patton was also in double figures with 11 points and 16 rebounds. Colby Hill paced Holden with 13 points.
Lexington Box Score: Zach Melvin 2 1-4 5; Brody Neece 0 0-0 0; Cash Cole 1 2-5 4; Chael Lichte 6 5-6 19; Jimmy Patton 4 3-4 11; Drew Bollmeyer 1 0-0 3. Three Point Goals: Lichte 2, Bollmeyer 1.
