New art exhibit to feature photos of Lexington in 1956

The Lexington Arts Council will be opening a new art exhibit on April 10 featuring photos of life in Lexington in 1956.
The photos were taken as part of a project by the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
The MU program called Missouri Photo Workshop started in 1949 and brings photojournalists from around the country to one town in Missouri each year. Lexington was the town featured in 1956.
On the 70th anniversary of when the photos were taken, the Arts Council will display the photos at the Margaret Gray Center, 811 South Business Highway 13 in Lexington.
Blank note cards will be available at the exhibit and attendees will be encouraged to make notes about any place or person they recognize in the photos. Photos are courtesy of the University of Missouri School of Journalism and as such the sponsors request that the exhibit be viewed in person only and pictures of the exhibit’s photos not be posted on Facebook or any other social media.
The exhibit will be on display from April 10 through April 27. The exhibit is free and open to the public at the Margaret Gray Center during regular weekday hours. If you come around lunch time, you can also enjoy one of their nutritious lunches between 11-12:30.
The exhibit can also be viewed during the Margaret Gray Center fundraisers on April 12th (Sunday lunch) and April 20th evening trivia.
Don’t miss this opportunity to see these unique and interesting photos!!
