Many athletes introduced at Meet the Minutemen

A large crowd was on hand as the annual Spring edition of Meet the Minutemen was held a week ago Tuesday at Lexington High School. A large number of athletes from both Lexington High School and Middle School were introduced, and are participating in numerous Sports this Spring at one of the schools. Following is a rundown of the teams that were introduced last Tuesday, as well as the number of athletes that are currently members of each team: The Powerlifting team is coached by Ben Friedrich and assistant coach is April Archibeque. There are 24 athletes on this team consisting of one senior, 2 juniors, 6 freshmen, 5 eighth graders and 10 seventh grade students.

The Esports team is coached by Monica Masuda and Candy Myers. There were 8 students from this team who attended Meet the Minutemen, and this relatively new sport features teams from different schools competing against each other in an on- line video gaming format. The Lexington team will next compete against Windsor High School on March 23, Higginsville on March 25, and Wellington-Napoleon on March 26.

The Middle School Girls Track Team is coached by head coach Crystal Turner, who is assisted by April Archibeque. This team of 22 athletes has 7 eighth graders, 11 seventh graders and 4 sixth grade students, and they will next compete in a Track meet at Carrollton on March 26. The Middle School Boys Track Team is under the direction of head coach Ben Friedrich, who is assisted by Aaron Hayden. This team has 19 athletes consisting of 7 eighth graders, 8 seventh grade students, and 4 sixth graders. They will also run in the Track meet at Carrollton on March 26.

The high school Golf Team which is coached by Connor Weedman and Jess Hansen has a total of 11 linksters, including 3 juniors, 6 sophomores, and 2 freshmen. Two of the team members are female golfers They will compete in a Frostbite Tournament at Higginsville on March 24 and will host the Lexington Quad the next day at Shirkey Golf Course in Richmond. The high school Girls and Boys Track Teams are coached by Chad Caldwell, Brad Young, Chris Brooks, Crystal Turner and Aaron Hayden. There are 25 Girls out for Track, consisting of 6 seniors, 2 juniors, 7 sophomores and 10 freshmen. They will first be in action at the Carrollton Early Bird Combo on March 26, and then at the Lathrop invitational on March 31. The Boys Track Team has 15 athletes consisting of 4 seniors, 2 juniors, 4 sophomores, and 5 freshmen. They will first be competing in the same meets at Carrollton and Lathrop that the Girls will be competing in. The final team to be introduced was the Boys Baseball team, which is coached by Jason Whitt, Jordan Mahurin and Rob Drescher. There are 27 players on the team made up of 6 seniors, 5 juniors, 7 sophomores and 9 freshmen.

The Minutemen competed in the Marshall Baseball Jamboree this past Saturday, and they will next have home games with Polo on March 24, Wellington-Napoleon on March 25 and Leeton on March 27.
