Aull About Sports

In today’s column, we will recap the 2025-26 Lexington Girls Basketball season, and we will recap the Boys year in next week’s paper.

LEXINGTON GIRLS BASKETBALL The Minutewomen had a winning season, as they finished with a 13-12 overall record, and were 3-7 in Conference play, but three of the Conference losses were very close games. The Minutewomen had a four game winning streak in December, including wins over Trenton and Milan in the North Central Holiday Hoops Classic, and they had a streak in January, where they won 5 of 6 games, including wins over Crest Ridge, Plattsburg, and Richmond during the same week. The Minutewomen also picked up wins over Pleasant Hill and Holden to earn the Consolation trophy in the Crest Ridge Cougar Classic. However, the most memorable game was probably the final game of the season, when after trailing by 9 points with only two minutes left in a District semi final game against Higginsville, the Minutewomen had a dramatic comeback, and had a chance to win, before finally falling 46 to 45.

The Lexington Girls will lose four Seniors including; Zoey Earnest, LaNiya Davis, Denee Caulkins and Amanda Triplett, who was injured for most of the season.. It appears that Earnest is the all-time Girls career scoring leader with 1531 points, and also the career rebound leader, with around 1100 rebounds, while Davis scored over 1100 points for her career, and was also an outstanding rebounder, as a multi year starter. Both Earnest and Davis were named to the All District Team, while Earnest was First Team All Conference, with Davis named to the Second Team. Junior Mireya Gonzalez was the other returning starter from a year ago, and she played well, but missed many games, as she was also a State Qualifier on the Wrestling team. The remainder of the Lexington Girls team was comprised of Freshmen, as Audrie Bollmeyer Mylan Huffman, Ellie Lichte, Kai Sheperd and Kinsley Worthington all started at different times, while Brooke Dye, Grace Dobson and Camber Taylor, also saw considerable playing time. With this many Freshmen playing as much as they did, the future could be very bright for the Lexington Girls.

Lexington Coach Brad Young commented: “I was extremely proud of the hard work, the eagerness to improve, and the coachability of this group. We had a very young team, with many freshmen, but they always gave their best in terms of hustle, heart and hard work, no matter what the score was, and these young girls made great strides during the season. If our returning players all work hard and get better during the off season, they have the potential to be a very special team. However, it will be a big challenge to replace Zoey Earnest and LaNiya Davis, as they have both not only been outstanding players, but they have been great leaders, and set a good example for our younger girls”.

Coach Young was the Head Coach, and Gayle Frerking was the Assistant Coach.
