Minutemen pick up two home wins last week
Polo at Lexington
The Lexington Boys Baseball Team proved that you don’t have to knock the cover off the ball to win, as they got only 3 hits, but got strong pitching, solid defense, and took advantage of mistakes, and they beat the Polo Panthers 5 to 3 a week ago Tuesday at Lexington Community Park.
The Minutemen scored in the first inning, as Alex Kraft led off with a walk, and scored on a ground out by Hunter Meyer, and led 1-0. Polo tied it at 1 with a run in the top of the second, but Lexington drew three walks, took advantage of 3 Polo miscues, and stole 3 bases in the second, scoring 4 runs without a hit, to take a 5-1 lead at the end of the inning. Polo chipped away, with single runs in the third and fourth innings, and cut the Lexington lead to 5-3 after 4 innings. Polo threatened in the sixth, with back to back singles to begin the frame. However, Trey Perez, who pitched a complete game, took control, as he struck out the side to end the inning, and then fanned two of the three hitters in the seventh, and Lexington had a 5 to 3 win.
Perez was impressive, as he pitched all 7 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 7 hits, while striking out 8, walking only 1 and hitting 1. Perez, Kraft and Braxton Emerson each had a hit for Lexington, while Gabe Crause, who was the losing pitcher had 2 hits for Polo, as did Ryan Robison.
Leeton at Lexington
The Lexington Minutemen Baseball Team scored early and often, as they blasted the Leeton Bulldogs 19 to 4 last Friday at Community Park.Leeton scored 2 runs in the top of the first inning, but the Minutemen responded with 4 in the bottom of the inning, and led 4-2 after one. Lexington then added another run in the second inning, and after the Bulldogs scored 2 times in the top of the third to cut their deficit to 1, the Minutemen tallied 6 runs in the bottom of the frame to open up an 11-4 lead. The Lexington Boys then exploded for 8 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it 19 to 4, and end the game, due to the 15 run differential.
The Minutemen showed good discipline at the plate, as they laid off of bad pitches, and drew 16 walks in the contest. Lexington had 6 hits in the game, as Alex Kraft, Drew Bollmeyer, Trey Perez, Tristyn Hurshman, Isac Huffman and Abel Morris each had a hit, while Kraft and Huffman both scored 3 runs, with Bollmeyer, Perez, Morris, Hunter Meyer and Johnnie Groves each scoring twice, and River Howes and Jesse Dunkle each scoring once.
