Michael Kramer

1. State the elected office you are seeking.
I am Michael J. Kramer seeking re-election to the 2nd Ward Councilman seat for the City of Lexington.
2. Give us a background of your family, your education and your history in the area.
I graduated from high school in Phoenix and went on to Arizona State University. I have two children, two step-children, 8 grandchildren and a great grandchild, all living in the western part of the country. I originally moved here to assist my Mother-in-Law, Mary Elizabeth White, who had just lost her daughter and husband. I had been coming here for many years before I moved here so was familiar with much of Lexington and surrounding areas. I later married Nekie Braswell Kramer.
When I first moved here I went through the Lafayette LEAD class. There I visited and met people from all the towns in Lafayette County. I have been involved with many activities since I moved here. I have been the Base Community Council representative to Whiteman Air force Base, President of the Lexington Museum and Historical Association, Treasurer of River City Players, Treasurer of Rotary, member of Shirkey Golf Course Board, member of the House of Hope Board and others.
Currently I am on the CASA Board, the 4-Life and 4-Life Property Management Boards, member of the Elks Lodge and attend a local church. I am the Lafayette County Public Land Trustee.
3. State your reasons for running for this office.
I think my experience in the business world and in the industrial and mechanical fields can help the City to continue to move forward. I want to give back to the City.
4. State your qualifications for this office.
I was on the Board that developed the Shopping Center idea and implemented the purchase and management of the 4-Life Center; and continue to be on both Boards. I have a strong business background and financial knowledge to deal with complex issues. While previously on the City Council I dealt with the water issues and the hospital issues among other things. In Arizona, I was the volunteer but totally hands-on manager of a 2500 home subdivision/ country club with golf course, restaurants, pool, live performing arts theater, sports courts, teen center, dam, roads, lakes, etc. I was on the Board of the wastewater facility. I managed payroll, operations and maintenance of the country club while conforming to state regulations and local laws, and also planning for the future.
5. What are your priorities and goals for the city?
There are some positive things going on in the City and I want to continue that. I want to work with the Economic Development group to find ways to use our existing resources. My goal is to have everyone work together using their particular skills for the good of Lexington.
