Chiefs baseball knocks off Smithton, drops game to St. Paul Lutheran

The Santa Fe Chiefs baseball team hosted the Smithton Tigers on 3-31 at Dalton Wilkinson Field. This one would be all Santa Fe as the Chiefs handled business pounding home plate 15 times to zero for the Tigers.

Things start off nicely in the first with a pair of walks and a base knock by Dalton Doak, nabbing two tallies in the first. Another run was posted in the 2nd, and the Chiefs were taking advantage of a bunch of free passes by the Tigers. In the third inning is where the wheels came off for Smithton as the Chiefs scored 10 runs, taking a 13-0 lead into the 4th. Walks seemed to be spelling doom as they often are, for the Tigers, and Santa Fe captured this contest 15-0. Logan Wilsie had a pair of hits, Tyler Tebbenkamp added a hit, and Korben Dierking added a triple in this one. The starter Thad Hopkins got the win for SFHS, going 4 innings, with 5 strikeouts.

Next up for the Chiefs was a solid St. Paul team on the road for the second away game of the season. St. Paul struck first getting two in the first, two in the third, and exploding for five in the 4th. Santa Fe scored a run each in the 3rd and 4th, taking an L, 11-2.

At the plate, Tebbenkamp and Tyson Davis had the only hits of the game, with Dierking reaching on 2 walks, along with Wilsie with 2 free passes as well. Brayden Livingston also coaxed a walk.
