Lady Huskers Fall in District Final

The Lady Huskers added another District final appearance to their banner last week in Lone Jack, entering as the two seed.
First off would be a tough battle with Lexington in the semifinals. The Minutewomen had played HHS close in both meetings prior and are led by their school’s all time leading scorer Zoey Earnest and 1,000 point scorer fellow senior LaNiya Davis.
Ada Stoner opened with a three pointer, and Chloe Tyler scored down low, but after leading all quarter the Huskers were down 10-8 after one when Davis hit a three at the buzzer.
Claudia Kouril went to the bank for a three, Tyler got a board and a bucket, and the half was 19-18 Huskers.
Third quarter saw HHS pull ahead 32-25 before Davis hit a deep three for LHS.
In the 4th quarter the Huskers held a nine point advantage with just over 2 to play. The Minutewomen however would chip away at that lead and be on the free throw line to tie the game in the final seconds.
After a freeze the kicker timeout, LHS missed the free throw but grabbed the rebound and had a chance to win the game with a stick back however the ball then was forced out of bounds by C-l. On the ensuing in bounds Lexington got the pass down low but an off balanced shot fell short securing the win for the Huskers, 46-45.
Next would be another rematch against top seeded Lone Jack High School. The Lady Mules have built a fine program the past few years and took third in state in 2025, which is no small feat.
C-l had won an earlier meeting back in December also at Lone Jack, 37-32. LJHS started hot, going up 8-0 before a Kouril score. Eventually Q1 ended 17-10 though after buckets by Tyler, Addison Frerking, and another Kouril score.
Frerking answered a three ball with her own trey to start the 2nd, and Tyler hit later for 28-19. Zaylin Strickland got a bucket off an assist by Tyler, Kouril hit from mid range, and HHS was hanging around despite Lone Jack’s best efforts. Frerking nailed a three for 33-26 to close the quarter.
At halftime Lone Jack did a nice job recognizing both schools state wrestling medalists including Lorelei Weaver and Xavier Myers for C-l.
Stoner hit a three in Q3, but LJHS won the quarter going up 48-38 into the 4th.
Stoner stole the opening in bounds pass and scored, Frerking scored, Strickland stole and scored, and Stoner hit a big trey for 54-48, however the Lady Mules pulled away in this one at the end, gaining the district title 59-48.
The loss dropped the Husker record to 13 and 15 overall. The good news is everyone is back next year for HHS.
