It was a Highway 23 showdown last Friday night at Santa Fe as the Chiefs took on the Concordia Orioles. The last meeting was in the conference tourney with CHS winning 46-39. Junior Will Leabo started the scoring party for the Chiefs getting a three ball to drop, then Logan Wilsie scored, four straight, Leabo got another bucket and CHS burned a timeout to talk things over down 9-0. Ethan Finkeldei scored the next basket, and at the 3:28 mark Concordia got on the board for 11-2. The Orioles showed some life though, drawing the quarter to a close at 13-7.

Jensen Rekhop delivered a three early in Q2, for 18-8, but the Orioles soon closed to within 4, at 18-14. Hayden Toliver hit a three pointer next and the half closed 21-14.

Wyatt Doak took it to the rack in the third quarter getting a score, and then Leabo hit a layup for 25-16, Wilsie got the traditional three point play to fall, and Santa Fe was holding off any momentum changes that CHS had in mind, with Finkeldei hitting a three to extend the lead 34-16 with four and change to go in the period. Doak scored again, then was at the stripe hitting two. Q3 ended 40-25.

Needing a run the Orioles scored 4 straight to bite into the lead at 4029 in the 4th. The Chiefs were also looking not to rush shots and take good care of the ball. Korben Dierking would get hot in the 2nd quarter, hitting three shots from behind the arc, and the halftime score was close at 32-30 with OHS up.
