Alma Council to introduce ordinance pertaining to landlords, unpaid utilities
Board of Aldermen of the City of Alma met in regular session at Alma City Hall on March 10, 2026 beginning at 6 p.m.
Roll call: Mayor Jeff Buford, Alderman Chris Boehmer, Alderman Rob Tebbenkamp, Alderman Gary Hoenshell, Alderman Derek Giffen, City Clerk Wendy Ballenger, Nick Boehmer, Kenneth Lewie.
Motion was made by Alderman Boehmer, seconded by Alderman Hoenshell, and carried 4-0 to approval of minutes as presented for the Public Hearing on Feb. 4, 2026.
Motion was made by Alderman Giffen, seconded by Alderman Boehmer, and carried 4-0 for approval of bills consolidated by funds.
New Business
The City received two mowing bids, and both were in the amount of $6,000. A motion was made by Alderman Hoenshell and seconded by Alderman Giffen to accept Tebbenkamp Lawn and Landscaping service for the 2026 mowing season.
A motion was made by Alderman Boehmer, seconded by Alderman Giffen, and carried 4-0 to create an ordinance to hold landlords responsible for any utility charge or fees left unpaid by any tenant and to raise rental utility deposits from $100 to $150.
A motion was made by Alderman Tebbenkamp, seconded by Alderman Hoenshell, and carried 4-0 to approve a yearly flow test at three different hydrants in town.
Chief Lewie reported the police car needs brakes put on. A motion was made by Alderman Boehmer, seconded by Alderman Hoenshell, and carried 4-0 to approve new brakes.
Nick Boehmer asked to have Brent Limback come dig out ditches. A motion was made by Alderman Tebbenkamp, seconded by Alderman Giffen, and carried 4-0.
Clerk Ballenger reported water loss for the month of February was at 19.73 percent.
The next monthly meeting is tentatively scheduled for April 9, 2026 at 6 p.m. All are encouraged to attend. Motion made by Alderman Tebbenkamp, seconded by Alderman Boehmer, and carried 4-0 to adjourn at 8 p.m.
