Lady Chiefs fall to Kingsville in opener

The Lady Chiefs of Santa Fe took on the Kingsville Lady Tigers in Alma last Friday night in softball, and the game would only be decided in a long extra inning affair going a lengthy nine innings.
The Lady Chiefs grabbed an early lead, dotting home plate once in the bottom of the 1st, before Kingsville tied it in the 4th. Later, KHS would put together a rally inning in the 9th, posting 4 more tallies and holding off the Red and Black for a 5-1 victory.
Toeing the rubber in this one was freshman Tatum Fitzwater in the circle, she went the distance going 9 innings, allowing just 4 hits, with a stellar 15 strikeouts. Offensively, Abbi Mueller had a pair of hits including a three bagger, Sami Mueller also provided a triple, Fitzwater added a hit, as did Chesney Warner. Kingsville’s pitcher Kinsey Scrutchfield also delivered and impressive 21 strikeouts on the day, and only allowed 5 hits.
The Lady Chiefs took on the Cole Camp Lady Bluebirds dropping a 12-7 affair on Monday. More on this game to come soon.
