Meyer is state champion free thrower

Over the past several weeks, area youth have been competing in a free throw competition which began in Higginsville.
The competition, sponsored by the Higginsville Knights of Columbus (Council 2244), was open to boys and girls ages 9-14 and was held in the Lafayette C-1 middle school gymnasium.
Brady Meyer, a 6th grader at Trinity Lutheran School, competed Feb. 1 at the local level in Higginsville where he took 1st place, sinking 14/15 free throws.
On Feb. 15 he competed at the area level in Lexington and again placed 1st, sinking 21/25 free throws.
On Feb. 22 he travelled to compete in regionals in Kansas City and once again took 1st place, sinking 23/25 free throws.
On Sunday, March 8, Brady travelled to Columbia to compete in the State Championship. After sinking 23/25 free throws, he won the title of State Champion free throw shooter for 12 year olds.
The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship began in 1972. The contest provides an athletic outlet and encourages the values of sportsmanship and healthy competition.
