A wee bit of the isles in Marshall

The Marshall Community Chorus is proud to announce its final concert of its 36th Concert Season which will take place on Sunday, April 12, at 2:00 PM at First Christian Church of Marshall.

Titled These Enchanted Isles, the concert promises an afternoon of music representing the people, land, traditions and faith of England, Ireland, Wales, and Scotland.

Chorus director Ron Sayer stated “I have wanted to feature the music of the isles at a concert for quite some time. Although we are only scratching the surface of their vast musical wealth, we hope this concert will resonate and engage with our audiences.”

“You can’t talk about the culture of the isles without talking about their rich musical heritage. It’s far more than a sound, for this music has been shaped by centuries of migration, resistance, folklore, storytelling, faith, and history. It is a living tradition.

Its music speaks to the soul and to the memory.”

And this is music that isn’t just popular in its native land but throughout the world.

Sayer noted “The Irish and Scottish specifically, have migrated and settled all over the globe, taking their culture, including their music, with them. That music is recognized and has even influenced other genres such as bluegrass and country music.”

Included in the hourlong concert are both familiar and new songs. Songs like Danny Boy, Down by the Sally Garden, Be Thou My Vision, Abide with Me, and Auld Lang Syne. The audience will be treated to lively jigs, haunting ballads, and inspirational sacred music.

As with all concerts by the Marshall Community Chorus, the concert is free and suitable for audiences of all ages.
