Missing child incident in Waverly
On March 31, 2026, at approximately 8:48 p.m., the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a missing 6-year-old boy in Waverly.
According to a release from the department, deputies, along with multiple assisting agencies, initiated an extensive search of the area. A coordinated effort was conducted utilizing available resources, including aerial drone support, to locate the child as quickly as possible.
At approximately 10:36 p.m., first responders located the child in a small pond within Waverly city limits. Life-saving measures were immediately administered; however, those efforts were unsuccessful.
This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts and prayers are with the child’s family during this incredibly difficult time.
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office appreciates the community members who volunteered to assist in the search effort. The following agencies provided support and assistance during the search: Waverly Police Department, Waverly Fire Protection District, Alma Fire Protection District, Carroll County EMS, Higginsville Police Department, Missouri Department of Conservation, Missouri State Highway Patrol.
