Chiefs baseball picks up first win of the season
The Santa Fe – with Norbourne Chiefs took on a tough Cole Camp baseball squad on Friday, the 23rd of March. Freshman Korben Dierking took to the mound first in this one, going three innings and allowing just one run. Four other SFHS hurlers saw action as well, but Cole Camp’s bats were active, producing 9 hits on the day, and coaxing 9 free passes as well. Thad Hopkins, and Wyatt Aversman had the only two hits for SFHS, who lost the contest 12-2.
The Chiefs dropped their third game of the season last week on 3-24-26 against Sweet Springs. Santa Fe plated 3 runs in their half of the 1st inning, with the Greyhounds tying the game in the third at three all. Each team scratched a run across in the 4th, however SSHS added three in the 5th, and traded two runs each in the 7th to take a conference win, 9-6. Dalton Doak and Tyler Tebbenkamp shared the bump in this one. Tebbenkamp was 2 for 3 at the plate, and other hits came from Logan Wilsie, and Tyson Davis.
Next up for the Chiefs was Green Ridge with La Monte on 3-27, the Red and Black attack would pick up the season’s first victory, rolling to a 10-5 win. Pitching duties were shared by Hopkins, Tyson Davis, and Dalton Doak. Hopkins was credited with the win going 4.2 innings with 3 K’s. Offensively, Tebbenkamp, Doak, Davis, Wilsie, and Jensen Rehkop all added hits.
On March 30, the Chiefs traveled over to Otterville for the first road game of the season, dropping that contest to the Eagles by the count of 10-6. Tebbenkamp (1 inning) and Aversman (5 innings) were on the hill in this one. The Chiefs opened with a pair of tallies in the 1st inning, before Otterville rallied making it 7-2 after 4 innings of play. The Chiefs did not wilt however, plating 4 runs of their own in the 7th and final inning. Hits were delivered by Doak, Hopkins, Wilsie, Livingston, and Rehkop.
The loss drops the season’s record to 1 and 4, with contests against Smithton (0-3), Northwest (Hughesville), (4-3) at home, and on the road at undefeated St. Paul in Concordia.
