Aull About Sports

In today’s column, we will recap the 2025-26 Lexington Boys Basketball season, which will conclude our review of the different Winter Sports.

LEXINGTON BOYS BASKETBALL The season started out well for the Lexington Boys, as they won 4 of their first 5 games, and beat Carrollton by double digits on the road, and came from behind to win a triple overtime thriller over Holden to move to 2-0 in Conference play. The Minutemen split two Conference home games, losing to Higginsville and beating Richmond to go 3-1 in the Conference, and they then beat Holden for the second time to earn the Consolation trophy in the Crest Ridge Cougar Classic.

The month of February was tough for the Lexington Boys, as they dropped Conference games to Knob Noster, Carrollton, Higginsville and Richmond to start the month, before beating Holden for the third time and losing again to Knob Noster, to wind up 4-6 in MRVC East play.

In Class 3 District play at Lone Jack, the Minutemen started out with a 66-59 victory over Holden, and they then faced number one seeded Higginsville in a District semi final clash, in their third meeting of the year between the two teams. The Lexington Boys played a great game, and came within a hair of pulling off a huge upset, where a win could have possibly opened the door for a nice post season run for the team. The Huskers, who had won the first two games over Lexington by double digit scores, led by 8 points at halftime, and led by 5 late in the game, but Lexington then rallied to tie the game at the end of regulation. The two teams then played two overtimes, and the Minutemen had some great opportunities to win the game in both overtime periods, but they could not quite get it done, and Higginsville won 54-52 in double overtime, and Lexington’s season came to an end, with a 1213 overall record.

The Lexington Boys will lose six Seniors including: Drew Bollmeyer, Blake Kaullen, Chael Lichte, Zach Melvin, Jimmy Patton, and Trey Perez. Lichte scored right at 1100 points for his career, and he became the all time leading three point scorer, for Lexington, as he nailed 216 triples in his career. Lichte and Patton were both named to the All District Team, while Lichte was First Team All Conference, with Patton being named Second Team, and Melvin earning Honorable Mention.

Other players included: Juniors; Tristyn Hurshman, Tommy Phillips, and Terry Souther. Sophomores; Cash Cole, Cam Goodloe, Anthony Hager, Luke Miller, Brody Neece, Corbin Ratliff, Kale Sander, and Hayden Ward. Freshmen; Tristen Beal, Bryar Ralston, Colter Rogers, and Jason Sawyer Coach Jordan Mahurin commented: “I was very proud of how we finished, and that last game showed how good that we could be. I hope that the way that we competed night in and night out has brought a lot of pride to Lexington and the Minutemen culture. I thank our Seniors for their leadership, and the positive influence that they had on our younger players, and I really appreciate all of their hard work during their career, even when some of it might have been uncomfortable. I hope that what they have learned in the Lexington basketball program, will carry over to their adult lives.”

Coach Mahurin was the Head Coach, and Jason Whitt was the Assistant Coach.
