City’s downtown recognized
Lexington’s unique and amazing downtown was recognized in the April issue of Rural Missouri magazine.
Lexington was among the winners in the magazine’s Best of Rural Missouri Readers’ Choice Contest.
Lexington was selected as the Editors’ Choice in the category of best Main Street or Downtown. Kirksville took first place in the category while St. Charles took second.
Now in its 23rd year, the annual contest conducted by Rural Missouri, a monthly magazine serving Missouri’s rural electric cooperative members, drew nearly 40,000 votes across 14 categories, celebrating standout spots to eat, shop, stay and explore.
“Each year, this contest becomes a roadmap to the places Missourians truly love — from small-town cafes to mustvisit destinations,” says Sara Schafer, Rural Missouri editor. “What makes it special is that these winners aren’t chosen by critics, but by the people who live, work and travel these roads every day. It’s an authentic snapshot of what makes rural Missouri shine.”
