The Davis Theater Continues to Shine as a Community Gathering Place

A long-standing piece of local history. The Davis Theater has been entertaining residents since it first opened its doors in 1934. Over the decades, it has remained a cornerstone of the community, blending historic charm with modern updates to keep audiences coming back.

In June 2023, the theater entered a new chapter when it was purchased by owners Kenny and Erin Meyers. Since then, the Meyers and their team of faithful volunteers, have worked to preserve the building’s rich heritage while adding new features and events that appeal to a wide range of visitors.

At the heart of The Davis is its main stage and large screen, affectionately known as the ‘GrandLady,’ which continues to serve as the centerpiece for the theater. In addition to the Grand Lady, the theater offers three smaller screens, giving guests more options for films and showtime s.There is also space to rent out parties or other special events.

The Davis has become well-known for serving some of the most delicious popcorn around! Recently, the theater expanded its menu to include pizza, giving visitors even more reason to stay, relax, and enjoy the experience.

Beyond films, the theater has also become a gathering place for creativity and community events.

Recently the Davis welcomed students from the University of Central Missouri (UCM) digital media program, who used the space while working on a short film project-highlighting the venue’s role in supporting local talent.

The Davis is also bringing more live entertainment to the area, hosting live music events each month through the end of the year. On March 14th, the theather hosted an all-80”s celebration featuring the band, Discord and Rhyme The night included costume contests, dancing and just a fun ‘ole time!

On March 29, the Mew Beginnings Fellowship Love Ministry sponsored a matinee fundraiser and played “ Noah”. There was a free will donation with all proceeds going towards the church for building repairs. The event brought residents together for a good cause, further demonstrating the theater’s role as more than just a place to watch movies.

As the Davis approaches its next chapter, it stands as a testament to the power of small-town tradition paired with fresh vision – proving that even after more than 90 years, there is still plenty of story left to tell.
