Softball plays back-to-back games v. Crest Ridge, dodges rain to play WN

On April 29, Santa Fe took on Crest Ridge in the second game of the I-70 Tourney. The Lady Cougars used 2 runs in the third, 1 in the 5th, and 5 more in the late 6th inning to take the win 8-0.
Tatum Fitzwater went 4.1 for the Red and Black, dealing out 6 K’s, 5 walks, allowing 7 hits and 2 earned runs. JoHanna Breshears also toed the rubber, going 1.1 innings, with 6 hits allowed, on 6 earned runs, and 4 walks.
Hitting was a rarity on this day, with Fitzwater breaking up the no hitter from the Crest Ridge pitcher, Erin Harms, who dealt 17 chairs in this contest. Crest Ridge collected 13 hits in this one making the difference.
Next up was a regular season affair with Crest Ridge held on Monday, May 4, where the Lady Chiefs would play a much closer game against the Lady Cougars, only falling 4 to 3.
Fitzwater issued 11 K’s, 4 earned runs, 5 walks, and allowed 7 hits in this one.
On Offense, hits came from Gentry Ballenger and Brooke Dierking with 2, including a double by Dierking, Breshears also with a pair, and Abigail Mueller and Adalynn Boland contributing base knocks.
On Tuesday night, the Lady Chiefs were able to squeeze in a game despite most other area schools canceling due to wet field conditions. Playing at Marshall on turf, as did the boys, the Lady Chiefs would drop their contest to Wellington 116. More on this game to come.
