Chiefs struggle to gain traction

Santa Fe-Norborne dropped a game to St. Paul in the I-70 tourney opener last week, losing 11-1 on 4-28-26.
Korben Dierking, Dalton Doak, and Wyatt Aversman all had a hit a piece but the St. Paul pitching staff would limit the Chiefs offense to just that on this day.
Tyler Tebbenkamp took the loss in this one, and Aversman saw brief action as well, as the Saints advanced on to the winner’s bracket side, scoring in each inning, and punctuating things in the final frame by dotting home plate 4 times for the spread win in the 5th.
Next was a clash with Wellington-Napoleon on April 29, also in the I-70 Tourney, and this game would be close. It would prove to be anyone’s ball game late, but the Tigers prevailed by the tally of 4 to 2.
Dierking (1 hit), Doak (2 hits), and Thad Hopkins (1 hit) were the offense on this day, as the Chiefs scratched across a run in the last inning, yet saw their comeback fall short on a ground out.
Dierking was the starter in this one on the mound.
Next was a regular season conference game at Crest Ridge on May 4. In another close contest, the Chiefs would lose 13-9.
The Chiefs offense was more potent in this contest getting nine hits on the day, two hits by Rehkop, and two by Hopkins led the way. Base knocks by Doak, Keifer Brookens, Tyson Davis, and Logan Wilsie were also provided.
Tebbenkamp was the starter for Santa Fe on the bump.
Rain sent the Tuesday game against Wellington over to Marshall to be played on turf. The Chiefs lost
12-4 to the Tigers. More on this game to come.
The Chiefs will play in Class 2 District 14 action on 5-14-26 against K.C. Barstow, which is listed as being played at Crest Ridge on the MSHSAA website.
