Marvin Lee Whitsitt

April 13, 1937 – May 9, 2026
Marvin Lee Whitsitt, 89 of Higginsville, formerly of Mayview, passed away May 9, 2026 at Meyer Care Center.
Marvin was born April 13, 1937 in Mayview, MO to Preston and Iola (Davidson) Whitsitt. He attended rural country school for several years then moved to the Mayview School where he met his future wife, Dorothy Starkebaum. Marvin was active in school plays and band spending time with Dorothy in both of those activities. They were married on June 2, 1957 in Mayview, MO.
Marvin worked at General Motor’s Fisher Body plant in Kansas City for a short time before purchasing a farm that he and Dorothy lived on for over 20 years. After serving in the Army National Guard for a couple years, he continued to farm including row crops, dairy cattle, and a wide variety of livestock (hogs, chickens, sheep, cattle). Marvin worked construction for several years with Gann Construction and later Vance Brother where he retired. During retirement, he remained on the farm tending cattle and gardening with Dorothy until moving to John Knox Village East in 2021.
In addition to farming and work, Marvin set an example for his family serving in various capacities at church including as lay leader and on church councils in Odessa and Higginsville.
Marvin is preceded in death his wife Dorothy, a daughter, Cynthia, his parents Preston and Iola Whitsitt, and his siblings J. Eldon Whitsitt, Mary McCoy, and David Whitsitt.
He is survived by his sons, Michael Whitsitt (Lori) of Forest Grove, OR and Darrell Whitsitt; His daughters, Kimberly Moore (Gene) of Liberty, MO and LeaAnn Williams (David) of Hot Springs Village, AR; and His 8 Grandchildren plus great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 26 th at 9:30 am at the Grace United Methodist Church.
Memorial Services will follow at 11:00 am, officiated by Reverend Jessica Richard and Reverend Terry Cook.
Pallbearers will be Caleb Whitsitt, Jacob Whitsitt, Luke Moore, Wesley Moore, Tim Whitsitt, and Bill Shier.
He will be buried at the Zion UCC Cemetery in Mayview.
Memorials are suggested to Grace UMC or Three Rivers Hospice.
