Santa Fe softball falls to Crest Ridge to end season

Santa Fe took on Wellington on Tuesday, May 5, falling 11-6 in a rain soaked affair on the astro turf in Marshall. The Lady Tigers collected 11 hits to the Lady Chiefs 6, and took early control of this one, scoring 7 times in the 1st inning. Santa Fe actually out hit WNHS 14-9, but after the early damage the Lady Chiefs were in catch up mode all day.

At the plate Gentry Ballenger, Tatum Fitzwater, and Abigail Mueller all had three-hit days, with Brooke Dierking also having a multi-hit game with two hits.

In the circle, three Lady Chiefs saw action; JoHanna Breshears, Fitzwater, and Ballenger. Fitzwater led in strikeouts, tossing nine seats.

On Thursday, May 7, Santa Fe out-winded the Archie Whirlwinds 10 to 2 at home in Alma. The Red and Black attack pounded out 14 hits, and Fitzwater sent 17 batters to the dugout with K’s in a dominating performance as the Lady Chiefs prepared for district play. Fitzwater aided her own cause by going 4 for 4 at the plate, and Ballenger, Dierking, and Breshears all had two hits a piece. Fitzwater’s at bats included two doubles, a triple, and a home run, barely missing hitting for the cycle, lacking only a single.

What would end up being the season finale took place on Monday, May 11, against Crest Ridge in district action.

The Lady Cougars would take an early lead of 3 to zero through 4 innings, before adding three insurance runs in the 5th. Santa Fe scratched across one run in the 6th, but CRHS would take the win, 6 to 1. The Lady Cougars out hit Santa Fe 13 to 5. Fitzwater was in the circle, going six innings, posting four K’s, on three walks, six earned runs, allowing 13 hits, and three walks. On offense, Ballenger, Dierking, Fitzwater, A. Mueller, Breshears, had the hits.

The loss ends the season at 7-11 and 1 overall.
