Several area players are first round selections in NBA Draft

Three different players, who have ties to the Kansas City area, were selected in the first round of the NBA Basketball Draft, that was held last week at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Darryn Peterson, a freshman guard who averaged 22.1 points per game for the Kansas Jayhawks this past season, despite missing 11 games due to injuries, and making the Freshman All American Team, was the second overall pick. Keaton Wagler, a freshman guard-forward who was an All American at Illinois this past year, and played his high school ball at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, was the number 5 overall selection.

Wagler averaged 17,9 points per game and helped lead the Ilini to the NCAA Final Four this past season. Bennett Stirtz, who was a Senior, who helped lead the Iowa Hawkeyes to the NCAA Elite 8 this past season was, selected as the sixteenth overall pick. Stirtz who played High School Basketball at Liberty, where his Dad was the Head Coach, averaged 19.8 points per game at Iowa, this past season, and received All American Honorable Mention Honors.
