Chester A. ‘Chet’ Rhodes

Chester A. “Chet” Rhodes, 91, of Marshall, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026, at his home. Chet was born on July 10, 1935, and was the son of the late Samuel David Rhodes Sr. and Alice Mae Crays Rhodes.
Chet was inducted into the U.S. Army on March 8, 1954, serving as a fireman in Korea for 16 months. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 23, 1955.
On Sept. 16, 1963, he married Helen Luttrell.
Chet had a 30 year career working as a signal man for the railroad with many of those years being spent with GM&O Railroad.
He had lived in Missouri for the last 50 years and was a member of V.F.W. Post 5925 in Lincoln and American Legion Post 558 in Malta Bend.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, of the home; five children: Chet Rhodes Jr. (Andrea), Delma Clark (Larry), Debbie Davis (Jeff), Brenda Turner (Tony) and Sandy Smith (Leroy); 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Rhodes of Illinois; as well as other extended family.
Chet was preceded in death by his parents; and four siblings: Norma Lewis, Russell Rhodes (Wilma), Charles Rhodes, and Samuel Rhodes Jr.
Military rites were held on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall, with visitation following. Memorials are suggested to Malta Bend American Legion Post 558, and an online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com
