Herbert Richtermeyer

Herbert Richtermeyer, 98, of Grand Pass, passed away on Sept. 23, 2026, at the Harry S. Truman VA Hospital in Columbia.

He was born Aug. 31, 1928, the only child of Frank and Fredericka “Reekie” Richtermeyer. He graduated in 1946 from Grand Pass High School.

Herbert and Beverly Ann Summers were married Dec. 17, 1950.

In 1950, Herbert joined the U.S. Air Force. He received aircraft and engine training at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he became an instructor and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. During the Korean Conflict, he served as a C-47 and “Flying Boxcar” maintenance instructor at Elmendorf Air Force Base near Anchorage, Alaska.

In 1954, Herbert & Beverly returned to Grand Pass and purchased the family home.

In 1955, Herbert opened Richtermeyer Garage. In 1968, he became the first automotive instructor at the Saline County Career Center and retired in 1998.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, and his sonin- law, David Michael “Mike” Shemwell. He is survived by his daughters Lisa Shemwell and Lita Jimenez, as well as much extended family.

Services will be on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, at St. Luke UCC in Grand Pass. Visitation will start at 10 a.m. with the funeral following at 11 a.m. Graveside service for both Herbert and Beverly will be held at Mt. Nebo Cemetery west of Grand Pass. Guests are invited to return to St. Luke’s fellowship hall to enjoy lunch.
