MRVCE Champion Huskers Split Final Conference Games

Husker Basketball made a trip over to Richmond last week on 2-16. After a lengthy senior night of introductions, (including girls being escorted and introduced not once but twice if they were a cheerleader and a basketball player), the ball was tipped at 8:26pm.

The first half would evolve quickly into the Nolan Quick show, as the senior Spartan would drop 23 points by halftime, Despite Quick being en fuego, Q1 ended just 17-14 in favor of RHS.

Parson Stoner hit a buzzer beater three at the end of the half for a 40-34 deficit, and despite hot shooting all around from the Spartans, HHS was still in the game.

Mid third quarter Richmond seemed to be pulling away and RHS was up 18, at 54-36. The third quarter ended with HHS gaining ground at 62-51, a credit to Husker tenacity.

Brock Page made it 6253 to start the 4th, Kadin Aversman got an and one, and Lucas Burns made it an 8 point spread just over three to play. Later, with a minute and a half to go the Huskers had a good look at a three pointer to close to within three, but missed and Richmond finished out the game down the stretch at the line, winning 80-71.

Quick finished with 34 to lead all scorers. Burns had consistent output in each frame to lead the Huskers with 19 and Stoner has 16. Other scoring: Fisher 6, Todd 2, C. Aversman 9, K. Aversman 6, Page 13.

The final regular season of the game was the HHS senior night on Thursday. After the festivities, the team took on the Holden Eagles. Starting an all senior crew of Caden Todd, Burns, Page, Zayden Fisher, and K. Aversman the team went up quickly 14-4, and Q1 ended up 19-6.

The Huskers were grounding the Eagles by halftime with a tally of 3412.

Senior Dalton Johnson added a bucket in Q4, as ultimately the Blue and Gold got into turbo time action (the 12th mercy clock appearance in a row over the Eagles), 63-34 to send off the seniors.

Scoring: Fisher 8, Todd 6, C. Aversman 5, Stoner 12, Johnson 2, K. Aversman 13, Page 13, Burns 4. Jackson Davis was high scorer for Holden with 14. District play begins this week in Lone Jack.
