Letters to the Editor

I am very pleased to see the upcoming celebration of Minnie Mae Talbot in June.

While this is definitely a much deserved community gathering to pay tribute to our beloved Minnie Mae, I would like to propose a plaque of remembrance for her husband, Lafayette County Sheriff Joseph C. Talbot and his two deputies, Michael Mc-Donald and James Stapleton.

I believe it is a great oversight that the only officers from Lafayette County to be slain in the line of duty are not publicly remembered for their sacrifice.

Unfortunately, Minnie Mae would only be a footnote in the town’s history if not for her husband’s untimely death.

I hope we can correct this oversight and pay a fitting and honorable tribute to three men who died serving the citizens of Lafayette County.
