Minutewomen win Consolation Trophy at Crest Ridge Tourney

The Lexington Girls Basketball Team picked up a couple of wins last week, and they brought home the Consolation trophy from the Cougar Classic Tournament that was played at Crest Ridge High School in Centerview.
Lexington Girls vs Knob Noster The third seeded Knob Noster Lady Panthers put 28 points on the board in the first quarter, and they never looked back as they beat the Lexington Minutewomen 75 to 36 in the first round of the Cougar Classic played a week ago Tuesday. Knob led 28-13 after one quarter, as they hit everything that they threw up in the period.
The Lexington Girls could not muster much offense in the second quarter, as they only scored 9 points, and trailed 4222 at intermission. Knob widened the gap to 61-36 after 3 periods, and coasted to the 75 to 36 final score. Mireya Gonzalez led Lexington with 15 points, while Zoey Earnest had 13.
Tinlee Jones led Knob with 19 points, Lyndi Goodrich had 18.

Lexington Girls vs Pleasant Hill The Minutewomen bounced back and beat Pleasant Hill 61 to 50 in a Consolation semi final game last Wednesday. Lexington led most of the way, as they were on top 15-10 when the first quarter ended. Zoey Earnest then had a big second period, as she tallied 12 points in the frame, and the Minutewomen took a 3321 double digit lead into the locker room at halftime.
Pleasant Hill pulled to within 8 points after 3 quarters, but the Lexington Girls put 16 points on the board in the final frame, and pulled away for the 61 to 50 win. Earnest led the way for Lexington with 26 points, with19 in the first half, while Davis had 19 points, with 13 of them in the second half, with Mireya Gonzalez adding 11 points for the game.
Maddi Manford led Pleasant Hill with 26 points, while Madeline McConville added 12 for Pleasant Hill, who was playing without several key players due to illness.

Lexington Girls vs Holden Zoey Earnest dribbled the length of the floor, and nailed a 13 foot jump shot with about 20 seconds left, and it proved to be the game winner, as the Lexington Girls nipped Holden 41 to 38 last Friday, to take the Consolation trophy in the Crest Ridge Cougar Classic. Neither team could get much going in the first quarter, as there were only three baskets and two free throws from the two teams combined, and Holden led 5-4 at the end of the period.
Things got a little better in the second quarter, as the Minutewomen scored 10 points in the period, and led 14-13 at halftime. Earnest scored 12 of the 14 first half points for Lexington.
This game remained a 2 or 3 point game throughout the third period, as neither team could get any separation, and the Minutewomen still led 27-25 at the end of the quarter. LaNiya Davis really came alive in the fourth period as, after being held to only two free throws for first three quarters, she scored 9 points in that final stanza, and although the lead see sawed back and forth the entire period, the Lexington Girls prevailed and came away with the 40-38 win.
Earnest led the way for Lexington with 21 points, including the game winner, while Davis added 11. Adalyn Campbell led all scorers with 26 points for Holden. With the win, Lexington improves to126 on the season, and will play league leading Carrollton at home on Friday.
