R-5 School District News & Views

Lexington R-5 School District Celebrates Students and Athletes Nearly any night of the week you can attend a Lexington sporting event to support an athlete. And if you don’t have a child or grandchild at Lexington middle school or high school, you are invited to attend anyway.
The easiest way to know where you can attend a sporting event is to sign up for the Lexington R-5 Textcaster. Simply go to our www.lexr5.org web site; under the Parents/Patrons tab you will see “textcaster.” At 7am every morning you will receive a notification of which athletes are competing and where. Thank you for attending school events and showing your support for our Lexington R-5 students. Congratulations to all of our Student athletes who finished/are finishing strong in their Winter events. Wrestling rallied a lot of support with state qualifiers, and it was exciting to see the numbers of students who turned out to compete in this sporting event.
Each month exemplary students, teachers, and staff are recognized at 6pm at the Lexington Board Building. Thank you to First Student Transportation for providing gift cards for us to recognize these STAR students and staff.
March 6th, Lexington R-5 March Madness, 6-8pm: Come see Lexington Teachers compete in a game of basketball. Community members should get some laughs and will have fun placing “limitations” on the players.
Lexington Early Childhood Center Lexington ECC is excited to get ready for planting season, conferences, and screenings. We will be hosting our PAT Preschool screenings April 7th, the last day of Spring Break, as the rest of the schools are holding Teacher Inservice.
This is a great time to have nurses and teachers check different areas of your child’s development, share results, and for you to think about which preschool program will be the best fit for your child this Fall.
On April 10th students scheduled to start Kindergarten this Fall will need a Kindergarten Screening. These are held at Leslie Bell Elementary on April 10th, and you will need to call (660) 259-4341 x4001to schedule an appointment.
Thank you to Beth Yeldell and the Lexington Garden Club for providing seeds for students and families to develop their “green thumbs.” Parent-Teacher Conferences are vital to our student success.
March 11th-12th all schools will be open 3-7pm for you to share and work with your child’s teacher to support your child’s skills. Kudos to Lexington ECC teachers for teaching students our PBIS expectations: be safe, kind, and helpful.
Last week a team from the Center of Positive Interventions and Behavior Supports (PBIS) completed district walkthroughs and student interviews. ECC students and staff knew expectations, were focused on positive behaviors, and had practices in place to keep parents informed of positive student actions.
Our next scheduled school closings are March 13th-20th – Spring Break, and April 3rd-6th – Easter Break.
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held the evenings of March 11th and 12th. Thank you for your continued support of our Lexington R-5 Minutemen!
