Minutemen beat Holden for fourth time

The Lexington Minutemen Boys Basketball Team beat the Holden Eagles for the fourth time this season, this time by the score of 66 to 59, in a first round District Tournament game, a week ago Tuesday at Lone Jack High School.

The Minutemen prevailed in all four games with Holden but, as was the case in this game last week, each game was very close, as Lexington won 94-87 in triple overtime at home, 57-54 for the Consolation Trophy in the Crest Ridge Cougar Classic, and 67-57 recently in the Holden gym, in a game that was not decided until late in the fourth quarter.

In last week’s first round District Tournament game, Jimmy Patton scored 10 points, while Blake Kaullen had a basket, Brody Neece two free throws, and Chael Lichte one in the first quarter, and Lexington led 15-13 at the end of the period.

Holden took a 29-27 lead into the locker room at halftime, as the Minutemen could muster only 12 points in quarter two, as Patton and Cash Cole each scored 4 points, Lichte nailed a 3 and Zach Melvin converted one free throw.

Holden started the second half with a 92 run, and led 38-29 midway through the third period. However, Lexington rallied and wound up scoring 20 points in the quarter, and they trimmed Holden’s lead to only 48-47 when the buzzer sounded. Patton scored 7, Cole 6, Lichte 3, and Melvin and Neece 2 each, in the period for the Minutemen.

Lexington then took charge of the contest, as they outscored Holden 12-5 to begin the fourth period, and led 58-53 midway through the quarter. The Eagles got back to within 4 points once, and within 5 pojnts on two other occasions, but the Minutemen never lost control, and held on for the 66 to 59 win. In the final quarter, Lichte scored 5 points, and Patton and Neece 4 each, with Cole adding 3, Melvin 2, and Kaullen 1 for Lexington.

Patton led the way for the Minutemen with 25 points, while Cole and Lichte were both also in double digits, with 13 and 12 points respectively. Colby Hill led Hoden with 25 points, while Evan Killion was also in double figures with 10 Lexington Box Score: Zach Melvin 2 1-2 5; Brody Neece 3 2-2 8; Blake Kaullen 1 1-2 3; Cash Cole 4 5-13 13; Chael Lichte 4 1-2 12; Jimmy Patton 11 3-6 25.
