DAR Chapter gets ‘Radd’

The Lafayette Lexington DAR Chapter held its monthly meeting at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Lexington on February 18.
The members enjoyed the program presented by Nancy Fallman on Elmer Radd. Elmer’s Cotton Club Band was famous throughout the Midwest, and they were in great demand. His band held forth in the dance halls while the Goose Pond Minstrels performed in the Grand Opera House. The speakeasies and saloons along the town’s notorious “Block 42” gave the men who worked in the town’s mines and factories places to spend their time and money.
Elmer died on December 6, 1976, and is buried at Forest Grove Cemetery.
Nancy also shared upcoming events that the Lexington Chamber of Commerce will be having in the future.
Susan (Susie) Callaway was initiated into the Lafayette-Lexington Chapter as a new member.
The members enjoyed a great meal by Lisa Ethington, and the next meeting will be March 18. The program will be the “BUZZ” About Bees, by Sally Nadler. Guests are always welcomed!
