The Chiefs were on the road to finish up the regular season last Friday night at Cole Camp to take on the Blue Birds. Logan Wilsie had 4 in the first and Will Leabo hit a three, but it was 12-9 CCHS after one quarter. Santa Fe heated up in the second frame going for 16 points, with Korben Dierking dropping in a pair of treys. The halftime score was knotted up at 25 all.
Third quarter action saw threes by Hayden Toliver, and Leabo. Guard Wyatt Doak added his 6th point of the contest in the period, but the Chiefs would be limited to 11 points, to the Bluebird’s 18. The Chiefs hit four threes in the 4th quarter, two of them by Ethan Finkeldei, one from Dierking, and one by Leabo who led SFHS with 14, however Cole Camp would outlast Santa Fe to take the win 58-50. Next up was districts at Concordia on 2-24 with host school CHS and it was win or go home time. This would be the third meeting of the two teams with the last one played less than two weeks prior where the Red and Black faithful were able to enjoy a big Santa Fe win. Concordia led 14-10 after one, with Leabo posting four to lead the frame.
Then in the second quarter Dierking provided a three, and it was 2018 Santa Fe up, after the defense held CHS to just 4 in Q2 at the half.
In the third quarter each squad tallied 9 points. Santa Fe saw a pair of treys by the freshman Dierking, and buckets by Wilsie and Finkeldei.
Tied heading into the fourth, Rehkop hit a three, and Noah Reep chipped in a free throw and another score, however Concordia caught fire and put Santa Fe in the rearview mirror, scoring 21 in the final period to make it a final of 48-37, with CHS on top. The loss sends off a great group of seniors who will be missed. Scoring: Rehkop 3, Wilsie 6, Doak 1, Dierking 9, Finkeldei 6, Toliver 3, Leabo 6, Reep 3. Wilckens had 13 to pace CHS.
