Lady Huskers Get Two Big Conference Victories on the Week

The Lady Huskers hosted Richmond on 2-3-26 at the East Gym. in an MRVC East contest. The teams had played previously with Richmond winning in the Husker Classic by convincing fashion, 4928. Chloe Tyler came out hot again in the opening period dropping 9 points to the Lady Spartan’s 8. Ada Stoner swatted a shot in the frame and had an assist as well.
In the 2nd quarter Addison Frerking finished a fast break for a score, however Richmond snagged a halftime lead of 15-11 at the break. Holding HHS to just one score in the frame.
Tyler got to the stripe, sinking a pair of freebies, and Stoner splashed home from deep for 18-17 and a Husker lead in the 3rd. Lillian Joyner was hacked in the act and sank both of her free shots, for 26-22 with a minute to play in Q3 still, and the quarter ended with HHS up 26-24, all set for Q4.
Richmond hit a three to go up 28-27 in the 4th, then Frerking added a bucket, Tyler notched a free throw, then scored on a fast break for 32-28. Stoner nailed another three at 4:23 for a 3529 advantage. Another rematch happened later in the week on 2-6, as the Lady Huskers hosted the Knob Noster Lady Panthers to town for conference play. Knob had also defeated HHS earlier in the season, in conference play by the count of 53-39.
Stoner opened with a 3 pointer, but Knob Noster answered quickly, going up 9-3 before Tyler hit down low and then again at 3:50 for 9-7. Claudia Kouril made a pair of free throws at 2:52, for 9 all, and Q1 ended with a Husker surge of 10 more points and a 199 advantage after one.
After several empty possessions by both squads mid 2nd quarter, the Huskers ran an inbounds play underneath with a long pass up top to Stoner who buried a three for 26-14 at the 2:49 mark. Frerking hit a corner three as well at the minute mark, and halftime saw HHS with the lead 29-22.
In the third quarter, Tyler hit a three, Frerking got a layup to go, but the Lady Panthers hit back to back threes and got another score to pull to within 6 at 40-34. Joyner added a pair of freebies and Q3 ended 42-34.
Knob pulled to within 4 with a three ball to start the 4th, Frerking got loose for 4 straight points, Kouril added two from the charity line, then a series of free throws occurred with 50% of them dropping in for HHS.
The Panthers had clawed back to make it a one point game late, before Frerking dropped two more free throws in for 57-54 with 22 seconds left. Makenna Riekhof was fouled with just 15 seconds left on a Panther turnover, making one of two from the stripe, and on the ensuing inbounds, Stoner stole a pass after the ball was inbounded underneath, and scored at to seal the win on Court and Mat night, 60 to 54.
