Third-quarter grants awarded by West Central Electric RoundUp Foundation
The third-quarter 2026 Round-Up grants were recently presented to area groups and organizations to help fund important projects. The following awards were presented: Helping Hands of Odessa received $2,500 for an industrial freezer.
Construction contract awarded for courthouse sidewalk project
Lafayette County has officially awarded the construction contract for its long-awaited Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) Grant project that will improve sidewalks surrounding the Lafayette County Courthouse in downtown Lexington.
Soil and Water Conservation Program distributes nearly $45 million to Missouri landowners
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Soil and Water Conservation Program provided nearly $45 million to Missouri landowners in fiscal year 2026, saving more than 924,000 tons of soil. Since the first passage of the Parks, Soils and Water Sales Tax in 1984, this funding source has allowed Missouri to prevent more than 195 million tons of soil erosion while also improving the state’s water quality and keeping farmland productive.

With a new school year brings new opportunities, fresh ideas, and new faces, and Mr. Monarch is looking forward to becoming part of our school and community. The role of Activities and Athletic Director extends far beyond scheduling games and events. It is about supporting student-athletes, encouraging participation in extracurricular activities, building school spirit, and helping students grow both on and off the field, court, stage, and classroom.
Commissioners Join Leaders to Advance Lafayette County Honor Walk Expansion
Lafayette County Commissioners recently met with members of the Friends of the Lafayette County Veterans Memorial to discuss progress on the next phase of the Lafayette County Honor Walk Project.
Summer Camp and Games Highlight Local Soccer Rctiuitg
FC Higginsville ran its 3rd annual Summer Soccer Clinic and had its largest turnout ever with over 40 kids participating in the camp. To put into context, in the first year 16 kids had participated, and last summer 23 players came out. FC Higginsville Technical Director Steve Bartosik added, “It's really something to watch how this thing continues to grow at all levels. Creating opportunities for youth, building new relationships, and connecting with people...It's one of the coolest things I have ever been a part of in my life.”
Missouri Electric Co-op Youth Program Delivers Education and Fun
JEFFERSON CITY. Mo. – Several area youth, were among the 110 high school students from across Missouri who participated in the Missouri Electric Cooperative CYCLE (Cooperative Youth Conference and Leadership Experience) program July 1417. Remington Sublette and Ero Garza of Warrensburg, Alex Dyer of Higginsville and Mia Unruh of Odessa were the local delegates sponsored by West Central Electric Cooperative.
From the Office of Lafayette County Prosecuting Attorney Kristen Ellis Hilbrennner
Sawnen Wah, 18, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was found guilty of Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer in the Second Degree, Aggravated Fleeing and Tampering with a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree following a guilty plea handled by Lafayette County Prosecuting Attorney, Kristen Ellis Hilbrenner. The defendant was sentenced to ten years on the Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer, ten years on the Aggravated Fleeing and five years on the Tampering with a Motor Vehicle, with that time to be served in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
