MGC ends Fair Week in style
End Lexington Fair Week at the Margaret Gray Center, where there is always something to enjoy.
Lafayette County Resource Fair planned
On Tuesday, Sept. 15, Lafayette County Enterprises and Lafayette County Bridging Support Services (formerly known as Lafayette County Board of Sheltered Services) have partnered to hold a Resource Fair. The event will be held at both locations, LCE (109 W. 19th St. Higginsville) and LCBSS (508 Fairground Ave, Higginsville) from 5-7 p.m.
Lafayette County 4-H/FFA Fair Celebrates Youth Achievements
The 2026 Lafayette County 4-H/FFA Fair brought together youth, families, volunteers, and community members for ten days of learning, competition, and celebration from July 11-20. The fair began with Exhibit Day at Lafayette County C-1 Middle School in Higginsville, where 4-H and FFA members showcased projects highlighting their skills, creativity, and dedication. Activities continued throughout the week at Fairground Park and the 4-H Barn in Higginsville, concluding with the Carcass Show at Nadler’s in Wellington on July 20.
Clover Kid Pet Show Brings Smiles and Fun
The Clover Kid Pet Show brought excitement and plenty of smiles to Fairground Park on Monday, July 13, 2026. Held at the Pole Barn, the event gave Clover Kids an opportunity to proudly introduce their pets and share what they have learned through their participation in 4-H. In a fun and welcoming atmosphere, participants answered questions from the Lafayette County 4-H King and Queen and showcased their animals for family, friends, and fairgoers.
Lee named Citizen of Quarter
For this third quarter of 2026, the Lexington Community Betterment Association has chosen Sheila Lee to receive its Citizen of the Quarter or Above and Beyond Award.
Hoflander earns Primary victory, voters approve school district ballot measures
News Editor Incumbent Presiding County Commissioner Harold Hoflander fended off a strong challenge from fellow Republican Jody Banner, and Lexington school district voters approved a bond issue and tax levy increase to highlight last Tuesday’s Primary Election.
County highlights increased funding for Special Road Districts
The Lafayette County Commission recently hosted a countywide Road & Bridge Training for Special Road District Commissioners, road district employees and county officials. The event focused on strengthening communication, encouraging collaboration, and providing updates on funding and issues impacting transportation infrastructure throughout Lafayette County.
Youth in Agriculture Award
The KMMO/Brownfield Network’s Youth in Agriculture Award recognizes a young person each year for outstanding involvement, leadership, and achievement in agriculture. During the 2026 Lafayette County 4-H/ FFA Fair, Ryan Freund was honored with this prestigious award and presented a commemorative belt buckle by Larry Smith of KMMO.
4-H/FFA Sheep Show
The Lafayette County 4-H/FFA Fair Sheep Show was held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the 4-H Barn in Fairground Park. The show provided exhibitors with an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of sheep production, animal care, and showmanship while showcasing the results of their hard work throughout the year. Participants exhibited both their livestock management skills and their commitment to responsible animal husbandry.
