The National Federation of High Schools announced some rule changes for this season. MSHSAA has adopted a few of them and will possibly adopt more next year. One major change would be the ability for teams to use two Liberos at the same time, however it is understood that at press time MSHSAA has not adopted that rule as yet, though we might see iit in 2027. (The Libero is a back-row defensive specialist and can substitute freely for any player in the back row without counting against regular team substitutions. The Libero wears a different color uniform so they can be easily identifiable). Here are some other key rule changes listed on the MSHSAA website that look to be in play this fall: A team may designate up to two liberos, but only one libero can be in the game at a time. When a team designates two liberos and one is injured/ ill, a new libero may be re-designated. When a team designates two liberos and one is disqualified; the team must continue with one libero. Rationale: Allows more student-athletes to participate by creating an additional opportunity for coaches without having to utilize a substitution.

There’s a new sheriff in town taking the helm for the Santa Fe Chiefs in football, and he is a familiar name to boot. Coach John Stockman, who played prep football at Santa Fe, will lead the Red and Black attack this fall and assume the Athletic Director position as well.

On July 9, Governor Mike Kehoe signed Senate Bill (SB) 863 into law, ensuring good governance and consistent standards for student programs and activities in the State of Missouri.

Here are more results from Little League All Star action taking place in District One. Winner of each district goes to state competition held in various spots around the state. Teams that win state will advance to regionals (Major Division and above).

The Lacomo East All Stars girls of the Majors division (12U) took 2nd last week in all star action in Marshall. The team started the tourney with a big win over Lacomo Central (Higginsville/Lexington), by the tally of 17-4. Next up was a 2nd round game against Harrison County where they fell 11-5. Central fought back through on the backside draw to face East again, this time saw a much closer contest with East prevailing 9-7 to advance to the title game against unbeaten Harrison County. The squad from up north took the championship, with a 12-2 spread of east to advance on to the state tournament, which will be held near St. Louis. We hope to have more results as they are made available.
