Blind Pony tours
During the months of June-August, area residents are invited to visit Blind Pony Hatchery in Sweet Springs every Tuesday at 10 a.m. for free summer tours. No reservation needed! Guests will receive a free guided tour through an operating fish hatchery. No registration is required, just show up at 10 a.m. any Tuesday in June or August. Blind Pony Hatchery is located at 16285 BP Hatchery Dr, Sweet Springs MO 65351.

Here are highlights from the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Board of Directors who met June 14-16 at the MSHSAA office for its regularly scheduled board meeting.
MDC for a Get Started with Hunting in Missouri virtual presentation
Have you ever wanted to hunt in Missouri but didn’t know where to start? If so, the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites you to join a virtual Get Started with Hunting in Missouri presentation on Wednesday, July 1, from 6-7 p.m. The program is free and open to anyone age six years and up.
Santa Fe sports recap – 2025-26 school year
Here is a quick look back at the 2025-26 school year for Santa Fe Chiefs athletics. The Volleyball team placed 2nd in Class One District 14 losing to Crest Ridge 3 sets to 2. The team finished with a fine record of 16-10, and 4. The team was 23 and 11 in 2024. For Chiefs football last fall, the team finished 3 and 7, after a 2 and 10 campaign the previous year. Moving into the winter season, the Lady Chiefs basketball team finished up 17 and 10 overall, after a 21 and 6 year in 2024-25. The boys saw marked improvement from the previous year going 8 and 18 on the season. In the spring many individual successes were seen on the track including Wyatt Doak taking 2nd in the High Jump at state, Koween Dierker 6th at state in the discus, and Mae Vandiver with a top ten performance (ninth) in the 800 meter run. On the ball diamond, the Lady Chiefs were 7-11 and 1, (9 and 13 the year before), and Chiefs Baseball showed improvement going 4 and 14 for the 2026 campaign. The Chiefs are already out there working hard this summer, it will be a fun sports year coming up.
Report turkey sightings to help with MDC wild turkey brood survey
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is asking the public to help it monitor the state’s wild turkey population this summer by reporting wild turkey sightings through the MDC Wild Turkey Brood Survey.
MDC proposes permits at unstaffed shooting ranges
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) offers free recreational firearms shooting on more than 35 unstaffed shooting ranges around the state. The ranges were designed decades ago primarily for hunters with most traditional use being in the spring and fall in preparation for various hunting seasons.

Want some free fun that gets family and friends outside in nature? Get hooked on fishing with the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Free Fishing Days June 6 and 7. During Free Fishing Days, anyone may fish in the Show-Me State without having to buy a fishing permit, trout permit, or trout park daily tag.
Santa Fe competes at State Track
Santa Fe traveled over to the state capital on May 22 and 23 for the MSHSAA Class 1 State Track and Field Championships, held in Jefferson City at Adkins Field.
Free quail workshop planned in Norborne
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and Quail Forever (QF) invite landowners, land managers, and others interested in quail and uplandbird management to a free program on managing bobwhite quail on private property on Saturday, June 6, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on a private farm in Norborne.
