John T. (Jack) Coats Memorial Scholarship Presented

The Higginsville Chamber of Commerce presented the John T. (Jack) Coats Memorial Scholarship at Lafayette County C-1 on May 7th to Bair Bergsieker.
This scholarship was established by the Higginsville Chamber in memory of its long-time Secretary, John T. (Jack) Coats. The scholarship is presented to an outstanding senior of the C-1 School District, who demonstrates the community spirit exemplified by Mr. Coats’ years of service to Higginsville.
The Higginsville Chamber is excited to partner with Jack’s daughter Debbie (Coats) Baker and granddaughter Nicole Baker Power who graciously serve as the selection committee.
Following is a message from Debbie & Nichole..
Blair Bergsieker demonstrates a clear and purposeful vision for a future in agricultural policy. Her extensive involvement in organizations such as FFA and 4-H, along with her leadership roles and consistent participation in service activities, reflects both dedication and initiative. She has not only participated in visible service opportunities, such as toy drives, but has also consistently taken on less recognized work, including highway clean-up, park maintenance, and event set-up and breakdown, demonstrating a strong work ethic and a genuine commitment to serving her community.
In addition to her agricultural work, she has expressed a strong interest in advocating for the voices and needs of her farming community, supporting this goal through legislative shadowing experiences and her choice of major in agricultural policy.
Throughout her academic career, extracurricular involvement, and volunteer service, her efforts have consistently centered on agriculture and community support. She has also thoughtfully shared how her field of study will allow her to serve her community in a meaningful and lasting way. Blair Bergsieker exemplifies the legacy of community service and volunteerism represented by John T. Coats. We are proud to recognize Blair Bergsieker as the recipient of the John T. Coats Memorial Scholarship.
On behalf of the Higginsville Chamber of Commerce and the family of Jack Coats, it is our pleasure to congratulate: Blair Bergsieker
