The Next Chapter Begins…

, nairarbil . srM Shelly Sears. Shelly has joined the library upon the retirement of Tina Myrick. We are excited to introduce Shelly to everyone that may not know her yet. Please feel free to stop by the library, introduce yourself and see all the amazing things that they have to offer.
A little bit from Shelly, ‘I grew up in NW Missouri. My whole life I have loved family, sports, and reading. I got my first degree in Recreation while playing basketball. I then got a coaching job at a small school in NW Missouri and went back and earned my teaching degree in K-12 Physical Education/ Health. We moved to Higginsville in 2005 and have been here ever since. I coached basketball and taught Middle School PE/Health. In 2015 I tested into the Family and Consumer Science world and just recently retired from Lafayette County C-1.
I knew after retirement that I was not going to be done working. I just wasn’t sure what my next step would be. I knew God would point me in the right direction. When I saw the Library Director Job posted I knew that was where I wanted to be. I love reading and working with people, so this was the perfect job. So far, I have loved every bit of it.
I just have really big shoes to fill, because Tina is amazing.
We have a book club every 2nd Wednesday of the month. We have children’s hour on Thursdays. Our Summer Reading Program is going on now until the end of July, every Thursday morning at 10:00. We are excited to have a new Annex Building to call ours and hoping to start up some new activities. The library offers free wifi, and computer use for necessities. We have a computer set up with a microfilm machine. You can look back at all the old newspapers of Higginsville up to a certain date. We offer a wide variety of books and can do inner library loans if our library does not offer what you are looking for. We also have an app called Libby. Here you can log in and listen to books online.
I am a big Freda McFadden fan right now. My daughter got me hooked on her books. I get really excited when Nicolas Sparks releases new books. He is probably my favorite.
Friends of the Library is a great way to help out our library. They do a book sale every year around Country Fair time. We will be set up at the Park Building normally. You can donate books towards the sale or you can join by going to our web page higginsvillelibrary. org. and clicking on the Friends tab. I am super excited for my new adventure and would love you to come see me at the library.’ Welcome Mrs. Sears!
